ABOUT MURCHISON

Bettie Murchison has revitalized an abandoned and historically Black institution of learning, the W.E.B. DuBois School, which once had a place at the heart of the minority community dating back to the 1920s. An alumna of the institution, Bettie Murchison's love of and devotion to the once proud W.E.B. DuBois School and its to reestablish its importance as a community center. In restoring the school and making it a center that offers practical training as well as academic programs, Bettie Murchison has helped transform a pocket of poverty and despair into a place of cultural richness and hope.
